Lonely is the Mage without Love

Author’s Note

This story is set in a fantasy world where the societal norms are different than in the modern age in a number of ways and evil things are known to occur in the world, even if they are not generally accepted.

This story will include references to an age of consent being 16, and some dialogue addressing sexual activity where at least one participant is underage. There are some youthful flirtations, some shows of affection from younger characters, and some underage characters discussing adult topics.

However, this story includes absolutely no depictions of sexual acts between any characters younger than 18, as per the rules and guidelines of the website.

A mage’s life is by necessity a lonely one. Few non-magic users understand or trust mages, even when they must work with them from time to time. Mages guard their secrets and their power jealously, taking on only a few apprentices at a time, and passing only the minimum knowledge to ensure the continuation of their craft. Thus it is that many arcane secrets have been lost, and rediscovered, and lost again. But one mage may have stumbled upon a secret no other mage has discovered.

How to win trust, friendship, and maybe even love.

Because they are rare, and because non-mages have trouble just understanding all the capabilities of a trained mage, a battle mage is typically allowed to select and lead their own party of adventurers once they have reached the rank of adept within the guild. This presents the unique opportunity for a mage to recruit an entire team of potential partners.

I'll be using tags to indicate paths and branches, such as dividing my main story into three branches; A, B, and C. Additionally, any chapter labeled as 'Mirrored' will be identical to any other chapter with a matching title.
