South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi dropped a cryptic post on social media after his team qualified for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. While highlighting their achievements in the recent ICC competitions, Shamsi lashed out at the critics who felt “cricket is dead in South Africa." The Proteas reached the semi-final of the 2023 ODI World Cup before finishing as the runners-up in the T20 World Cup earlier in July. Now, they are set to feature in the WTC final for the first time in history. South Africa sealed the berth after beating Pakistan in the series opener on December 29 in Centurion.

Shamsi is equally proud of the women’s national cricket team which has reached the final of the T20 World Cup two times in a row. In 2023, they were defeated by Australia while New Zealand overcame them to become the champions in October this year.

“ODI World Cup semi-final. T20 World Cup Final. The ladies’ team making 2 World Cup finals in a row. The test team in the WTC final. Cricket is definitely dead in SA if we are to believe the negative people on South African Cricket Twitter," Tabraiz Shamsi posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Temba Bavuma was thrilled to lead South Africa to the WTC final. Following their two-wicket victory over Pakistan, the Proteas captain said, “It is a big one, not just for myself but also the team and the coach. The way we started our campaign, against India and then New Zealand with a not-so-strong team, and the way we have gone through with our performances, not many gave us a chance."
