Chapter 2 by J-Man84 J-Man84

What path will you choose?

Monica, and The Red Dress

It was late as Monica was headed home from work. She was holding a coffee as it had been a very long and busy day, and she still had to make a few stops before getting home, so she was trying to get a last-minute burst of energy.

Monica had just turned thirty and focused mainly on her work. She was a very attractive woman, with brunette hair and a nice figure, often getting a lot of attention, but she never had much time for dating. Not that she hadn't been on any, but it was hard to balance her life for both.

Monica worked for a museum in the city and as much as she loved her job, it could be stressful and tiring at times. It would be easier if she lived in the city as well, but given the cost of living, it was cheaper for her to stay where she was a few miles outside of New York.

"Shit!" She yelled out as she had to slam on the breaks as someone had cut her off, spilling her coffee all over her shirt. "Son of a bitch!" She said, not so much getting burned, but angry at the mess on her clothes as she still had stops to make. "As if today wasn't already bad enough."

She pulled into a parking lot and grabbed a few napkins, trying to wipe up the mess but not having much luck. She was getting annoyed until she realized there was a consignment store in the plaza she was in. At this point, going and grabbing a cheap shirt seemed the easiest option as she shut her car off and headed into the store.

Luckily there weren't many people in there as she entered the store, smelling the scent of old clothes that all these places had. There seemed to be a lot of choices, but all she needed was just a basic T-shirt, which she found with a big "1984" on it.

"Huh, before I was born, but who cares," she said grabbing it before she took a glance at a few more items. Monica spun her head, thinking for a second someone had just whispered something in her ear. "Hello?" She said as she soon realized it was just her and the cashier in the store. "That was...... wait, what's that?" She said before she noticed a strange dress hanging on a rack by itself.

It was a mix of orange and red and had no tags on it. It looked like something out of the 80s, but as she picked it up and looked it over, there was something strange about it. There was no name or any sort of label saying who made it, how to wash it, or anything like that.

"Zuuuuullll," a voice whispered in her ear as she spun around again, only to realize she was still by herself.

"What the Hell?" She said before turning her attention back to the dress, noticing the red and gold sash around the waist.

The dress was nothing like anything she would usually wear, but she still found herself drawn to it. She held it up against her body and imagined how sexy she would look wearing it as she bit her bottom lip.

"Oh my, I think I'll buy you," she said with a smile before bringing it to the counter. "Hello, I'll take this shirt and..... how much for the dress?" She asked, unable to find a price tag on it.

"Oh, that? God, it's been here so long. You can have it for five bucks," the older man said.

"Sold," Monica said handing him the money for both.

She headed back to her car, waiting for nobody to be around before she quickly swapped her stained shirt for the other, pausing for a moment to look at the dress again, almost tempted to try it on, then and there, but soon came to her senses and put the t-shirt on.

"Okay, now back on the road," she said before turning out into traffic and continuing.

What has she found?
