Chapter 2 by braunackerman1 braunackerman1

Whose story do we follow?

Mallory

The sun was already shining through her window by the time Mallory woke up. Mallory rolled out of bed groggy. Her summer vacation was allowing her to not care when she fell asleep, leading to Mallory’s frequent late nights.

Mallory grabbed her phone from her nightstand and checked the time. 10:46. Shit. She was going to be late. Mallory was chronically late, but it wasn’t always her fault. She just had stuff to do sometimes and sometimes that stuff ended up distracting her from the other less important stuff. Whatever the reason, Mallory couldn’t be too late or she wouldn’t hear the end of it.

Mallory rolled out of her bed, taking her glasses from her bedside, and grabbed some clothes from her closet. She didn’t have time to put together a whole outfit, so she did what could quickly, a skirt and a matching top.

Ducking into the bathroom, Mallory did her morning routine and put on a quick bit of makeup. She did have to spend a couple minutes brushing out the knots in her hair. Mallory’s hair was a curly black mess of knots if she didn’t brush it out in the morning. It annoyed Mallory that she was basically **** to brush her hair every morning if she wanted to leave the house not looking like a stack of hay. Overall though, Mallory liked her hair. Despite the effort, her hair went well with her bright green eyes. Mallory took a minute to admire herself in the mirror. She thought she looked good. Her summer tan was coming in and she liked the way her blue glasses worked with her eyes.

Finishing up in the bathroom, Mallory headed downstairs to the kitchen. She popped a bagel in the toaster, and was just about to leave when she was stopped by her sister.

“Where you going Mal?” called Jaime.

“I’m going out,” Mallory replied.

“Going out where?”

This annoyed Mallory. Despite being a college freshman, Jaime still felt the need to baby her. Jaime was only one year older than Mallory, but she liked to act like she was many years older than her. Mallory understood why Jaime acted like this, their parents were very busy people and, despite their best efforts, sometimes weren’t the most observant of their daughters. Jaime was though. Jaime kept very close tabs on Mallory, which bothered Mallory to no end. She did appreciate how much her sister cared, but she still couldn’t bring herself to be outwardly appreciative.

Mallory sighed. “I’m going to meet Grace,” Mallory replied.

“Ok, you going to have lunch with her?” Jaime asked.

“I don’t know probably, why?”

“Because Mom and Dad are busy and I’m going to met up with Jason, so I won’t be here to make anything.”

Mallory groaned. This was another thing that bothered her about her sister. Despite being only a year older than her, Jaime had a boyfriend of 3 years. Mallory, meanwhile, had no boyfriend and had never had a boyfriend. Jason was a good enough guy, but Mallory hated how her sister was better at this than her.

“Oh yeah, sure, I mean it’s not like I’m an adult who could find her own lunch, nah I definitely need someone to get it for me,” Mallory responded sarcastically.

“Hey I’m just trying to make sure you’re okay,” Jaime responded, “Don’t hate me for that.”

“Whatever,” Mallory replied.

With that Mallory walked out of the kitchen and out of her house, heading to meet Grace
